Subject Rolleston v Tutbury 12-07-09

Reply

After a night of rain, Rolleston found themselves playing on a damp wicket at the Willows, Rolleston put the visitors into bat.
Liam Goode took the first wicket with the first ball of the game having the Tutbury opener cleaned bowled, continued to bowl a great opening spell of 4-2-5-1. Tutbury batted steadily, but with Dan Wildman (3-0-7-2) removing the dangerous Waddington and another batsmen three balls later putting Tutbury on the back foot. Captain Featherstone brought young Joe Bateman into the attack with devastating effect, Joe taking a wicket in each of his first two overs but his third over 4 wickets fell including a hat trick to finish with figures of 3-1-5-6, remarkable for such a young cricketer. Dan (john) Thompson finished the Tutbury innings with his 3rd ball leaving the visitors all out in the 16th over for 38.
Rolleston started there reply with Dan F and young Brandon only for Brandon to play on with the fourth ball, incoming batsmen Charlie Wood (playing his last game at this level) pushed the score on steadily with lots of singles and extra's, before Charlie being bowled for 11. Jack Prescott soon departed shortly again playing on leaving Dan F to see the team home in the 9th over, with 11 not out.
Another victory for the 13's, but with 3 games to go a final push may see the squad get second place in the league.

Subject Rolleston U13 v Whittington

Reply

Whittington were the visitors to the Willows on this glorious Sunday morning, with the hosts being put into bat, good early progress was made by Goode and Parker before Henry fell for a quick fire 15 in the fourth over, Goode was out bowled and Dan Featherstone quickly followed to a trgic run-out. Thompson (9) and Wood began to rebuild the innings taking the score to 64 before Dan was out bowled. With the Whittington bowling attack being changed at every over, Charlie taken full advantage moving to an impressive 30 retired with one huge six and two fours. This bought Dan Wildman to the crease at the start of the 17th over to take full control of the final overs, batting in typical Wildy fashion the ball dissapearing to the leg side boundary frequently, unfortunately in the last over Dan being bowled with his score on 29 off 19 balls including 6 fours. Rolleston closing on 130 for 7.
Bertie opening the bowling for the home team and with his fourth ball taking a great caught and bowled diving head first for a low catch, Bradley Hambelton on his debut for the 13's bowled impressively within good area's. Some impressive bowling was to follow from Jack Arnold and Dan Wildman, but it was a couple of run outs that removed the middle order, Bertie with an excellent pick up and throw, with the second following a Bertie dolly dropper being eagerly backed up by Liam Goode to throw straight above the stumps to Henry Parker for an easy dismissal. Young Brandon Ridgeway (2-0-13-2) coming into the attack to remove two batsmen, followed by Dan Thompson to chip in with two wickets (2-1-2-2). Excellent result by the home side, with some great fielding, particulary from Bradley with two good catch's and some eager ground work.
Whittington finishing on 78 for a home win by 52runs.

Subject Rolleston v Winshill U13's

Reply

It was important for Rolleston 13's to get back to winning ways, Feathers winning the toss and putting Winshill into bat. Rolleston bowling was tight to start with Charlie (4-2-6-0) and Bertie (4-0-8-) getting Rolleston of to a good start. Winshill opening bat of Joel Mitchell batted steadily but left three of his team mates high and dry with some poor running as wickets tumbled in the middle section, Liam Goode taking a wicket (3-1-5-1) leaving Winsgill to close on 62-6, Rolleston using 9 bowlers in total.
The opening pair of Wildman and Goode took to the crease for Rolleston's reply, Wildman (6) crashing a boundary through mid-wicket before trying to repeat the shot and top edging to the keeper. Goode (22) continued to take the game to Winshill hitting four consecutive fours before finally being caught at mid on trying another shot to the boundary. Spanner and Jack P continued to progress the score with plenty of singles before both departing with the score on 43, in came Henry Parker (7no) and Bertie (13no) to punish some average slow bowling to all parts of the boundary with Bertie hitting an enormous six to mid-wicket, Rolleston completing the run chase inside 12 overs.

Subject Rolleston v Alrewas (Cup semi-final)

Reply

For the first time this year Rolleston 13's went into a game with a little apprehension after losing to Alrewas a few days earlier, Captain Charlie Wood was back and elected to bowl first. Rolleston got of to a dream start with the dangerous Hodgkinson and Kitchen back in the pavillion of Winstone's (4-1-23-2) first over. Steady progress was being made until Wood (4-0-20-3) took two wickets in one over to put Alrewas 31-4 of 6overs. Dan Wildman and Liam Goode (40-8-1) came into the attack taking a wicket apiece, but with Dan struggling for line and length Liam was keeping it tight from the other end. A great piece of fielding by Lewis McQuillan dismissed Rielly which left Dan Thompson to wrap the tail up dismissing the strong Alrewas side for 88.
Rolleston were warned that some straight batting was required after Sunday's performance, Wildman and Winstone saw off the opening pair of Hodgkinson and Kitchen, progressing to 12 of the first 4 overs, but with the introduction of slow turn from Smith, wickets tumbled with Wildman, Goode, Ridgeway and McQuillan being sent back to the pavillion within his first 3 overs. The tumble of wickets spurred Bertie on to make a challenge scoring 4x 4 and 2x6 of his next 10 balls to retire on 31 putting Rolleston within touching distance at 55 from 11 overs. Henry parker was dismissed by the dangerous Hodgkinson, leaving Charlie and Dan Featherstone to see the opening bowlers out whilst increasing the score with some good shots and good running. Once the openers had departed the 5th choice bowler came on with more runs to the Rolleston pair. Charlie being dismissed to a dubious high ball with the score on 76, Dan F playing a great shot over mid wicket for four next ball, before being caught leaving Rolleston in trouble on 80 with 2 overs to go. Masters took the 19th over and removed Billings and Thompson to leave a jubilant Alrewas side celebrating victory.
Rolleston fought well, but lost the game with some poor fielding missing some early run-out chances and again plenty of extra's (24) although to there credit not many Wide balls but still pleny of leg side balls.

On a warm morning Rolleston found themselves playing hosts to Alrewas, a team who were unbeaten coming into the fixture, Rolleston won the toss and elected to bat, with the manger sending the usual opening pair of Dan Wildman and Liam Goode to open the innings looking for a good start. Wickets started to tumble from as early as the second over with four of the top five out within the first 8 overs to probably the best opening spell from any opposition seen this year, although there was good bowling there was some poor shot selections along the way. It was left to Henry Parker to show any kinds of resilience to the visitors bowling scoring 17, but once Henry was out quickly followed by the captain Dan Featherstone it was left to the youngster Jack Prescott to keep the innings going with a gusty 12 not out to post a score of 55.

Alrewas set about reaching there target with ease, with a mixture of good shots and some poor leg side bowling enabling Hodgkinson to soon rally up to 32, with no other significant batting contributions as Rolleston only managing to take 2 wickets, one clean bowled by Bertie the other to a great piece of fielding from Dan Wildman. Again extras cost dearly as 19 with 12 wides was again on the high side for only 11 overs being bowled.

The first defeat of the season will hopefully leave a few boys with lessons to be learnt, although the boys having chance for revenge in the cup semi-final this week.

Subject Rolleston v Lullington (Cup ¼ Final) 03-06-09

Reply

Rolleston entered this quarter final tie on fine form but were to come across a Lullington team that most play in the S Derbys league rather than the Burton league, which bought about a great game of twists and turns. Rolleston batted first with Liam Goode and Dan Wildman, it was to be a dream start which probably turned the game Rolleston’s way, excellent shot decisions from both, timing well above their years, Dan being particulary harsh to anything remotely short or on his legs and Liam hitting well within the V, thus enabling Rolleston to run riot early on posting 62 from the first 7 over’s, before Dan being forced to retire for the second innings running with a great score of 32 (1x6 and 4x4). Once the opening partnership had been split Lullington turned the tie towards their favour with some excellent bowling from Fern and Hughill alongside some poor batting from Rolleston, Goode was out for 19, quickly followed by the middle order as 6 wickets fell quickly. It was left to Bertie Winstone (19no) and Lewis McQuillan (13no) for a final push in the last few over’s to set a defendable target of 106.

Rolleston started brightly in the field with some good early bowling from Dan Featherstone (4-0-22-3) and Charlie Wood (4-0-8-1) which was keeping Lullington at bay, with Lullington punishing any wayward bowling some good bowling from Liam Goode (3-0-10-2) and Bertie Winstone (3-0-11-2) backed up with some excellent catching and a good piece of fielding by young Joe Bateman, made sure that wickets were tumbling all the time. Rolleston boys managed to see the tie out with Lullington ending up just 9runs short of their target, with only one batsmen getting into double fixtures, the mass of extras totalling 35 playing a major part within the Lullington innings.

Rolleston through to the semi-final of the cup, little improvements needed in certain area’s but could this be the club’s year at Under 13’s.

Subject Rolleston v Burton 31-05-09

On a glorious Sunday morning a disappointing Burton side turned up at the Willows with 8 players, a big thank-you to Simon Billings, Charlie Hartshorne and George Lofthouse for helping out the Burton team. Burton won the toss and elected to bat, but a good start was not to follow as Bertie Winstone striking with his first ball assisted by a good catch from Dan (john) Thompson. Steady progress was made by the Burton pair of Clarke (8) and Worth (28) seeing them through to the 17th over before a late flurry of 3 wickets in the final over’s with Jack Prescott seeing excellent figures with two wicket maidens to finish. Although most of the bowling was economical a little wayward at times as Burton posted a target of 53-4 of there 20 over’s.

Rolleston took to the wicket with Daniel Wildman and Liam Goode and set about reaching the target in double quick fashion, Daniel in particularly opening up with some magnificent shots through mid-on and cover. Shots were continuing to be played with anything short being despatched with great power and ease to the on side boundary. In the fifth over Dan Wildman reached a magnificent 32 to retire to raptous applause from a well impressed crowd. Charlie Wood strode to the crease a player in fine form but it was not to be his day being dismissed first ball, being the first time Charlie has been out this season, Goode (11) followed shortly, leaving Lewis McQuillan and Henry Parker to see the team through to the target of 54 inside 7 over’s.

Another good win, but with some tough games to come Lullington (cup), Barton and Alrewas the boys will need to fulfil there potential if they want to stay top of the league

Subject Rolleston v Dunstall – 24-05-09

Rolleston were put into bat on the slightly green Rangemore track on a hot sunny Sunday morning, Dan Featherstone(5) and Bertie Winstone(11) opening up but neither got into there usual stride with both being out within 5 overs and the score on 21. Steady progression was made from Liam Goode (13) and Joe Bateman (12) until the spin of Mason removed Goode, Parker and Arnold in his first two overs. Charlie Wood (29no) and Brandon Ridgeway (12) formed a good partnership for the 7th wicket of 48 runs with Chas punishing the bad ball and Brandon nudging and running tactics working well. Rolleston ending up on 105-7 of their 20 overs.

Dunstall second innings never took of with some excellent bowling from Featherstone and Goode, Winstone and Lewis McQuillan replacing the opening pair with Bertie struggling with his run up it was left to Lewis to send Dunstall’s better batsmen back to the pavilion with excellent bowling of 4-0-17-2. Charlie Wood and Jack Prescott came onto take two wickets each to finish Dunstall’s innings.

A strong performance from the boys but some much needed accuracy is required with some tougher games to follows as extra’s and in particular wides top score with 26 and 18 respectively.

Well done boys!!

Subject u13s vs Hilton

Reply

On a bright sunny morning, Rolleston were put into bat on a greenish track, looking for another good start as in previous matches but it was not to be, Liam Goode, Dan Featherstone, Bertie Winstone and Ankit Rai all back in the pavilion within 4 overs with the score on 6. Much credit must go to Dan Wildman (17) who saw off the remaining overs from the Hilton opening bowlers ably assisted by Simon Billings (6). Once the bowling changed a flurry of shots saw the scoreboard start to tick over, before both batsmen departed with the total on 50. After Lewis McQuillan had departed to an excellent piece of Hilton fielding it was left to Chas Wood (27 no 4x4fours) and young Joe Bateman (6) to set a good target of 97, with some fine shots and excellent running between the wickets. A remarkable achievement from the early destruction due to good length and swing bowling from Hilton.

Rolleston took to the field but with some less than convincing early bowling than previous matches, with a lot of no balls (10) and wide (19) deliveries helping the Hilton total increase steadily. Some fine bowling from in particular Liam Goode (3-2-2-2), Dan Wildman (3-1-4-0) and Lewis McQuillan (3-0-7-0) allowed the Rolleston side to take control of the game. Rolleston saw the game out with the use of 9 bowlers in total to win by 20 runs to keep the unbeaten start to the year going.

Rolleston elected to bat first for the first time this year, with Bertie and Dan Feather (9) moving the score on rapidly from the start, Bertie getting to 28 (5 fours) quickly before being caught going for another boundary with the score on 35. Second wicket fell at 39 leaving the innings to be revived by Liam Goode who retired on 30 (5 fours) off only 23 balls with some fine shot making. Jack Arnold (3) departed soon after leaving Charlie Wood and Henry Parker to move the score on to an impressive 115 for 4 of their 20 overs.

Tutbury started their response but with Dan Wildman opening the bowling it proved too much with wickets in his first and second over, Tutbury found it hard going from some accurate bowling from Dan Thompson (3-1-4-0), Lewis McQuillan (4-1-3-1) and Simon Billings (2-0-7-1). Dan Wildman returned for his final over to remove the final batsmen to finish with excellent figures of 4-3-4-4. Rolleston’s fielding also proving too good for Tutbury with 3 run outs costing them dearly.

Rolleston win by 85 runs.
