After the first two games were called off due to the weather, the 2nds 1st game of the season was certainly one to forget.
After losing the toss the Willowers were asked to bat on a slightly damp track, against last years relegated team Allestree. S.Cobley and L.Burrows opened up for the 2's but a soft run out started the rot as Burrows ran himself out for just 3. Cobley (3) soon followed being to early on a shot and giving the fielder an easy task of taking the catch.
This brought Brown and Wakefield to the crease to try and stabilise the early wickets with Brown in particular looking fairly solid. Wakefield guided a short ball straight down slips throat to remove him before Brown was removed with a smart catch from the keeper.
Captain and Vice Captain were then at the crease, to try and repair the damage as Rolleston were struggling at 34-4. The pair blocked out for a few overs, which included a small stoppage due to a rain shower, but both were soon removed to leave Rolleston in a mess at 52-6. Goode (0) soon followed, but N.Tate (18), put up some resistance with some lusty blows before he was caught. A.Cooper (2) and J.Thomson followed but M.Parker, a late replacement, was left at the end on 1no, with Rolleston collapsing to 81 all out.
With a small target to defend on a drying out outfield and wicket the 2's had a hard task ahead. Thomson and Cooper opened up and tried to make an early breakthrough. This was achieved by Thomson who was bowling a tight line and length leading to the batsman to giving a catch, which was smartly taken by N.Tate and short cover. This however was the only breakthrough and Allestree strolled to a nine wicket win, leaving Rolleston, with no points.
Hard work, team spirit and some self belief is required from now on in, to ensure the Promotion challenge takes off in the next few weeks.
